The National Festival of Masquerade Games of the Young People in Dobrudja, Varnentsi village, Tutrakan is organised annually in March at the beginning of the Fasting period. It is organised by “Lumina-1904” Center of Local Community. It includes comedians mostly from the north – east of Bulgaria which present the traditional types of masquerades for that regions. During the winter in order to chase away the bad spirits and diseases, are included groups from different regions as well as from Romania. What makes it more interesting is the competition.
The most colourful are called „the black masque snazzy” typical for Varnetsi village.
Dressed in black and with wood swords and bats that make a scary noise, the comedians manage to scare the young guests and the old people coming to the celebration.
