Unique of its kind in Bulgaria, the sailor’s monument was inaugurated in the city of Ruse, on 19 December 1930, in the courtyard of the barracks fleet where, at the time, was based on the Danube flotilla – the beginning of the Bulgarian Navy.
The monument is located immediately above the exhibition Sexaginta Prista Roman city.
Sailor Monument is a symbol of the link between the ancient Roman port on the Danube and the Danube fleet, established centuries later – after our first fleet of Liberation of Bulgaria.
The author of the sculpture is Vladimir Vladimirov. It was stated today in place in 1999. Since then, also revived and tradition that the fest of the Russian fleet to start in the city.
