Aleko Island has long been united with Marten Island and lies between the Sandrovo village and the small town Slivo Pole, between km 479 and km 472. Together with the island of Batin, Aleko is one of the biggest islands on the Bulgarian Danube. The islander complex falls entirely within  the Natura 2000 code BG0000529 protected area, Martin-Ryahovo – protected area by the Habitat’s Directive. Also, on the island  we can found poplar and willow and many blackberry bushes and amorphous.  The island is accessible for fishing and camping when Danube waters are lower. The western part of the island heavily used for lumbering, there are almost all artificially planted forests. The eastern part is wild and offers  contact with nature in its natural form.
