“The wall” is not a natural conservation area in accordance with Bulgarian law but was evaluated by the international conservation association BirdLife International as an important place for birds conservation. The area represents 6% of the total Bulgarian territories for birds conservation.
“The Wall” is a major touristic attraction for the nature lovers. It holds the biggest colony of bee-eaters that is why it is included in Natura 2000 network. The birds of this species – lat. Merops apiaster, like nesting in the soft loess as the one of the „Wall”, where they are easily digging one meter tunnels for eggs incubation. The total length of the loess wall is about 100 meters.
